Our Newest Baby

People always say starting a business is like having another baby. Now, I can confidently say they're absolutely right. This little business has become something we think about every single day. It's the first thing I check in the morning and usually one of the last things I think about before I fall asleep. Every booking makes us smile. Every inquiry gives us hope. Every idea sends us down another rabbit hole of, "Ooh...what if we added this?"

We've poured so much time, energy and heart into Backyard Bash Co. that it's hard not to become emotionally invested in every little milestone. Considering we opened on May 1st, we've had a pretty good summer. We've met some wonderful people, had some great rentals, learned countless lessons, and watched our little dream slowly begin to take shape.

Now July is coming to an end, and things have naturally slow down a bit. And if I'm being honest...patience has never really been my thing.

When you're excited about something you've built, you just want everyone to know about it. You want it to grow. You want to see where it can go. One of the strangest parts for me has actually been marketing.

I didn't go to school for business. I went to school to be a teacher. Talking to a classroom full of students? No problem. Walking up to a stranger and telling them about Backyard Bash Co.? Somehow...terrifying.

I'm actually pretty shy by nature, so promoting our business doesn't always come naturally. I want to tell everyone about it, but I also don't want to be that person who turns every conversation into a sales pitch.

So I've been finding little ways to spread the word instead. Wearing my Backyard Bash hoodie. Sharing our posts. Writing these blogs. And hoping our excitement is contagious. Speaking of hoodies...

Creating our merchandise has been one of my favorite parts of this journey. Every time I see someone buying a t-shirt or hoodie it honestly makes me smile.

To our friends and family who have purchased a shirt, hat, hoodie or mug...thank you. (No...I'm not one the one shipping so I'm sorry it takes forever!) You may think you just bought a piece of clothing, but to us, you became a walking billboard for our dream. Your support means more than you'll ever know.

We're still at the very beginning of this adventure and we have no idea exactly where it will lead us. But we do know this...

We're grateful. Grateful for every rental. Every share. Every encouraging message. Every person cheering us on.

Here's to the rest of summer, new connections and continuing to grow our little "baby" one bash at a time.

With coffee, chaos & big dreams,

Julie & Maria
